About Our Professional Development

Mission & History

The mission of the National Safe Schools Convening is to bring together educators, community leaders, parents, and policy makers to learn about research-based best practices for improving school culture and climate.

Founded in 2016, the National Safe Schools Convening membership represents a diverse range of educational organizations and philanthropic leaders.  The fiscal agent for the National Safe Schools Convening is Iowa Safe Schools, a statewide nonprofit that works to improve school culture and climate for LGBTQ youth through professional development and continuing education.

Thank you!

Due to the support of an anonymous foundation, the National Safe Schools Convening is able to build infrastructure and professional development for educators and youth-serving professionals across the Midwest.  The Planning Committee for the National Safe Schools Convening consists of educators, non-profit leaders, and community members.  This is a multi-year process and the growth of these conversations will continue into the future.

If you are interested in learning more about how to get involved in the National Safe Schools Convening, engage in our continuing education opportunities, or to become a partner organization, email us at info@safeschoolsnation.org .
